Synrad (Novanta) CO2 laser source refill and exchange

Laser-Store24, an independent workshop in Rutesheim, Germany, refills and exchanges Novanta/Synrad CO2 laser sources from the 48 series, Firestar, Pulstar, Evolution and FSV ranges, including large sources such as the Firestar F201 and F400. Almost all common sources are held in stock and can be offered as a 1:1 exchange at short notice. Depending on model and power, prices range from €490 to €11,900 net (excl. VAT); a refill takes 3–7 working days and comes with a 12-month functional warranty on our work. The exact price is fixed after measurement, and nothing is done without your approval.

Which machines use Synrad laser sources?

Many manufacturers of marking, coding and engraving machines fit Synrad/Novanta sources, including Videojet, Domino Printing Sciences, Markem-Imaje, Macsa ID, KBA-Metronic, SEI Laser, eurolaser, Trotec Laser, GCC Laser, Gravograph/Gravotech and Pfeiffer Laser. One example: older Trotec Speedy machines with a 30 W TL2 / T2 source often contain a Synrad 48-2. Whatever the machine brand, the rating plate on the source itself shows the exact Synrad model.

Why does a Synrad RF laser lose power?

A Synrad source is a sealed CO2 laser in a metal housing, excited by radio frequency (RF). It is not a consumable glass tube. Over time the internal gas mixture (CO2, nitrogen, helium) degrades, and output power drops gradually.

Bear in mind that dirty optics or a misaligned beam cause exactly the same symptoms. Before you send a source in, check the mirrors, lens and alignment first. If you are unsure, our maintenance and repair team can carry out an initial remote diagnosis.

Signs your Synrad laser needs a regas

  • Jobs need two passes where one used to be enough.
  • Cut edges are burnt.
  • Power fluctuates during a job.
  • The laser is hard to fire up from cold.

For a general overview of refilling versus replacing, see our CO2 laser tube refill page.

How does a Synrad laser refill work?

What happens on your side

  1. Describe and send: tell us about the source and the symptoms. We reply within 24 hours (working days).
  2. Measurement on arrival: the source is tested as soon as it reaches us.
  3. Fixed-price quote: nothing is done without your approval. If the source cannot be refilled, you are not charged for a refill and we suggest a replacement.
  4. Refill, second measurement and insured return shipping.

Packing advice: see shipping and packaging.

The 8 workshop steps

  1. Incoming test and power measurement
  2. Diagnosis, including residual gas analysis by mass spectrometry
  3. Evacuation and leak testing (helium leak test)
  4. Filling with the original gas mixture
  5. Resonator and optics check
  6. RF electronics check
  7. Adjustment
  8. Final measurement

With RF sources, the power supply, driver and cooling are measured before the source is opened. Tightness is checked under vacuum over several hours, and power and beam profile are verified before the source goes back. You receive a before-and-after measurement report including the electrical parameters.

Synrad refill cost and turnaround time

  • Price: €490–11,900 net (excl. VAT), depending on the source, fixed by quote after measurement.
  • Saving: a refill typically costs 30–50 % less than a new source.
  • Turnaround: 3–7 working days in the workshop.
  • Warranty: 12-month functional warranty on our work.

1:1 exchange from stock

We hold almost all common Synrad sources in stock, including the Firestar F201 and F400. If a compatible source is available, tested and approved, it can be dispatched within 24 hours. Your old source comes back to us as part of the exchange. Depending on model and location, we can also offer removal, installation, testing, adjustment and alignment as an option.

Sending your Synrad source from the UK

  • A shipment from Germany to the UK is an export, so there is no German VAT on the invoice.
  • UK import VAT and customs clearance are handled through the courier.
  • For a refill or repair, the source can be sent as a temporary export / outward processing for repair; your customs agent or courier handles the paperwork.
  • EU businesses with a VAT ID are invoiced without German VAT (reverse charge).
  • How to pack the source safely: see shipping and packaging.

What information do we need?

  • Manufacturer and model (e.g. Synrad Firestar t80)
  • Rated power and serial number
  • Photo of the rating plate
  • Description of the symptoms

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Synrad refills

Can a Synrad laser be refilled more than once?

Yes, as long as the condition of the source allows it. The diagnosis on arrival tells us whether another refill makes sense.

Will my Synrad laser get its original power back?

Power returns to the original level or close to it. The before-and-after measurement report shows the value achieved.

What happens if my source cannot be refilled?

You are not charged for a refill, and we suggest a replacement solution instead.

Is Laser-Store24 an authorised Synrad service centre?

No. Laser-Store24 is an independent workshop with no official link to Novanta or Synrad. Our 12-month warranty covers our work and does not replace a manufacturer's warranty.

Should I check the optics before sending the source?

Yes. Dirty optics or poor alignment produce the same symptoms as a weak source, so check them first.

Is your laser source losing power? Have it measured.

Brand, model, symptoms: we tell you whether a refill makes sense before you send anything.
